life line, 2018

Life Line has been created as part of What’s Going On Upstairs, an art installation to be exhibited at the Knitting & Stitching Show this autumn. The piece is a replica of a hospital drip bag and hangs from a drip stand. The hand stitched text has been copied from a young girl’s diary. The motif is of an ‘anorexia fairy’ that has tormented her life as she struggles with an eating disorder.

The tube from the drip bag will be attached to a handmade quilt to form a life line to the patient. This drip bag is filled with capsules containing miniature foods including health-giving vegetables, fruits, cheese, fish and milk. The other bag is full of sweets, chocolates, cakes and crisps that the patient thinks are being pumped into her…
