fair-weather friends, 2026

invited - III International Biennial of Contemporary Fiber Art Valtopina italy 2026

Platonic love between long-term friends can be deep, steady and full of affection, built on shared interests, trust and mutual understanding.

But what happens when a conflict overseas creates an unbridgeable divide between them? When one friend’s heritage suddenly becomes a point of tension, and the other accepts everything they see on social media without questioning what is true or fair?

Some Jewish friends find themselves isolated, pushed aside or quietly ghosted, left confused, distressed and devastated by something entirely beyond their control. They become scapegoats for propaganda, misinformation and lies, as former friends drift away.

In the aftermath, they are left not only with grief, but with difficult questions about what friendship really means, struggling to rebuild trust while processing the hurt and disillusionment left behind.

  • Another powerful work in progress

  • Once again, your work is brilliant and always beautiful

  • The person told me they “wanted less drama in their life!”

  • Such a timely art installation

  • I have deleted my former friends’ hollow and often hurtful words

  • I cannot imagine losing my dearest friends over something that I have no control over

  • This is so timely with reports of attacks on Jews becoming an almost daily event

  • It’s heartbreaking

  • This is such a strong piece and in such an accessible format as usual
